President's Message - February 2017

Posted by on 12 February 2017 | 0 Comments

Welcome to 2017!  I am honored and delighted to serve as your Chapter President this year.  Eastern Mass. NARI is a vibrant, growing organization that represents the best of the residential remodeling industry.  EM NARI creates a place where professionals can come to connect, learn, and grow our businesses.  There is, however, much that we can do collectively to improve our industry and I am eager to work with each of you to meet both the opportunities and the challenges ahead.

First, allow me to recognize my colleagues that serve on the Board of Directors. The EM NARI Board represents the diverse businesses that make up our chapter with a heavy emphasis on remodeling contractors.  Many of the faces will be familiar to you, but I would like to welcome 4 new board members: Cathy Follett of Renovisions, Peter Feinmann of Feinmann, Inc., Phil Cherkas of Cherkas Home Improvement, and Sean Reynolds of Woodmeister.  The EM NARI Board Members work throughout the year, some serving both on the Board and as committee chairs, to ensure that the programs and efforts of the chapter meet the needs of our members.

Dave Supple of NE Design & Construction, Bill Farnsworth of Custom Contracting, Phil Cherkas of Cherkas Home Improvement, John Cognata of COGS Construction & Design, Kelly Pappas of Foster & Sullivan Insurance, Kathy DeMeyer of Encore Construction, Peter Feinmann of Feinmann, Inc. Stephen Ross of Commonwealth Financial Group, Jim Lavallee of Jim Lavallee Plumbing & Heating, Justin Zeller of Red House Custom Builders, Sean Reynolds of Woodmeister Master Builders, and Von Salmi of Von Salmi & Assoc. (Not Pictured: Cathy Follett of Renovisions)

Allow me to also recognize the 2017 EM NARI Corporate Sponsors.  Our chapter cannot continue to grow without their support – we cannot make it on dues alone.  We are so fortunate that our EM NARI sponsors understand the importance of partnership with the chapter.  They are in this because they believe in our work and they believe in helping our members grow.  We are grateful.

Gold Sponsors:  CPS HVAC and The Granite Group/The Ultimate Bath Store
Silver Sponsors:  California Closets, F. D. Sterritt Lumber, Mason & Mason Insurance, Pella Windows & Doors, and Woodmeister Master Builders
Bronze Sponsors:  Designer Bath/Salem Plumbing, Kohler Co., National Lumber, Resource Options, Inc, and Splash/The Portland Group

Finally, as many of you heard during our annual meeting in January.  It is my belief that one of the most critical challenges facing our industry is a lack of skilled labor.  Many of our members have individual efforts going on at their businesses to connect and train future workers. As a chapter, we are uniquely positioned to bring the best practices of local businesses together as we explore ways to collectively expand our connections, our programs and resources, and our advocacy efforts.  With that, we will be forming a new committee at the chapter – the EM NARI Workforce Development Committee.  That group will work to identify ways our chapter can make an impact locally.  Our hope is to raise awareness of the wealth of opportunities for good paying jobs in the residential remodeling industry and create pathways that create the skilled workers we need.
