There was a festive spirit in the air at the December Membership meeting last week in Natick. From a great display of gifts that members donated for Toys for Tots, to a great crowd that was treated to a very informative (and often funny) presentation by Diane Schrage of Kohler.  She is a senior interior designer for Kohler’s Design Center.   Also presenting was Ed Del Grande who is a three time master pipefitter, plumber and contractor.  They spent the evening educating us about what is new in the world of plumbing and bathroom fixtures.

The funniest segment was about toilets, but in truth there is a lot more going on in the world of toilets than you think. From comfort height, to wall mounted, to one piece toilets, to seats with night lights or bidets built-in,  there are many more options than ever before.  Comfort height is good for the elderly and wall mounts are good for when you have limited space.  We also learned about toilets with different flushing options and water conservation methods.

There was also a lot of discussion about Universal design - so important for anyone with a disability or the elderly.  More people are aging in place and staying their home longer. If you are able to remodel a bathroom that has a comfort height seat, a shower or tub with attractive grab bars, and an adjustable shower head, you enable people of all ages to comfortable and safely use the bathroom.

My favorite part was the part about incorporating speakers into your bathroom. From waterproof speaker tiles to a Bluetooth shower head, the options are limitless!  I am planning on getting one for my son for the holidays. It is a reasonably priced gift, but I may never get him out of the shower now!

EM NARI Members Give Generously!

Thanks to all the EM NARI members who donated toys for the Toys for Tots drive at our meeting.  There were nearly 80 toys donated that evening and over $200 raised for additional toys.  In all, nearly 100 children in need in our area will benefit from the generosity of our EM NARI members.   Our dinner sponsor, Kohler, donated a Awaken Multifunction Showerhead as a drawing for those who brought toys.  Congratulations Kate Hyland Mercer – our winner!

Thanks to everyone who donated, and to Mark One for coordinating the drive again this year.
